Visit durations and walking times are planning estimates. Timetables and admission rules come from the linked operators.
Plan your visit
Allow 3-4 hours for the city walk and museum, plus the station approach. A plant expedition may take most of a day and must be booked independently.
The railway station is outside the central walking area. The mapped street route to the City Museum at Atgimimo 23 is about 2.9 km; allow roughly 45-55 minutes on foot, depending on pace and stops, or arrange a taxi.
What to see
City Museum, Atgimimo 23
Objects, photographs and residents’ stories explain the city’s construction and multicultural community. Interactive displays include Time Capsule; exhibitions change. Allow 45-60 minutes. The published exhibition hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 09:00-17:00; closed Monday-Tuesday.
Official visitor informationFounding stone and residential courtyards
The memorial stone at Sedulinos alėja 4A marks the city’s creation. Follow the pedestrian spaces and look at the relationship between curved housing blocks, trees and shared courtyards. Allow 45-60 minutes, staying out of private entrances.
Official visitor informationThe Big Book mosaic
Viktor Tatarenko’s mosaic is in the public library at Taikos 52. The library lists Monday-Thursday 10:00-18:00 and Friday 10:00-17:00; it is an indoor stop, not outdoor art available at any hour. Allow 10-15 minutes.
Official visitor informationLake Visaginas
Finish at the beach and lake paths for a short waterside break. Allow 30-60 minutes; extend the visit in good weather. This is a short lakeside stop, rather than a walk around the whole lake.
Official visitor informationControl-panel simulator
At Balto Street 1, outside the city-centre loop, the simulator is a full-size copy of Unit 2’s control panel. Visits require booking and a group of at least ten: up to 30 minutes for a short visit, or about 60 minutes guided. Contact info@visitvisaginas.lt or +370 651 22004.

A self-guided city day
Start at the museum, follow Sedulinos alėja to the founding stone, explore the public residential courtyards, then visit the library mosaic on an opening day and finish by the lake. Allow a café break rather than adding an industrial-site journey to the same short walk.
Wednesday-Friday is the simplest overlap between the museum and library hours. At weekends, view the library exterior and leave the indoor mosaic for a weekday unless special opening is announced; on Monday-Tuesday, the City Museum is closed.
Three different nuclear-history visits
The simulator is a booked training installation, not a reactor visit. Altra’s information centre at Elektrinės Street 6 shows reactor, fuel and waste-storage models, a VR tour and an interactive decommissioning game. Its free tour lasts about one hour, with a minimum group of five, on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10:00. Register through the centre: +370 386 29 911 or +370 617 23 646.
Controlled-area expeditions are booked through Bilietai.lt links on Altra’s official page. The short route lasts 3-4 hours; the full route takes a working day, and a separate four-hour Saturday option is advertised. Entry is 18+, with a maximum of 15, identity screening and an original ID document. Expect substantial walking, stairs and changing into protective clothing. Phones, personal belongings and personal photography are prohibited in controlled areas. The operator excludes pregnant and breastfeeding visitors. Book through the official page rather than an intermediary’s promised place.

Rain and limited mobility
In rain, use the City Museum and library during their opening hours, with a short courtyard walk between them. For less walking, take a taxi from the station to the museum and later to the lake. Ask about building access or simulator arrangements directly; a controlled-area expedition is unsuitable as a substitute for a gentle city visit.
