Where to stay in Dzūkija: spa town or forest

Choose Druskininkai for a town stay with spa options, or Marcinkonys and Merkinė for a trip centred on forest villages and the national park. Keep a rural overnight close to the walk, visitor centre or activity you actually plan.

Area comparisonHotels and rural stays

Compare quotes for the same dates, guest count and cancellation terms; check whether breakfast, parking, sauna use and municipal visitor charges are included. The map may also show stays outside Dzūkija. Check the address before choosing accommodation.

Find places to stay nearby

Set dates and guests, then update the map to compare nearby stays. On the booking website, set the room count and each child’s actual age, then review the dates, all guests, location, total price, reviews and booking conditions before paying.

Choose a base

For a forest visit, locate your accommodation against the particular trail or village you will visit. The State Service for Protected Areas lists the Marcinkonys ethnographic homestead at Miškininkų g. 6; it is a visitor attraction, not a bookable overnight homestead simply because its name contains sodyba.

Town facilities or a forest overnight?

A Druskininkai room is the more practical starting point when meals and spa visits are the main reason for travelling. A park-area stay gives you a different day: leave room for a village walk and one forest outing instead of commuting to the resort for every meal. For camping, use an authorised campsite rather than treating a forest parking area as an overnight pitch.

Match the booking to your route

A spa booking and a rural cottage solve different needs. Check the treatment schedule before choosing a spa package, or the access road and return transport before choosing a forest property. For tents use designated sites; a quiet clearing or a host’s informal suggestion does not establish permission to camp.

Keep the overnight address separate from the excursion

Marcinkonys is a useful reference point when comparing addresses for a forest itinerary. For an early walk or organised outing, ask the organiser for the meeting point first, then choose a place to sleep that fits that start.

Spa time and forest time need different plans

If the purpose of the trip is a booked spa programme, keep treatment times and meals beside the room offer while comparing options. A cheaper room elsewhere may add journeys between appointments. For a forest stay, spend the same attention on the kitchen, drinking water and the last stretch of road. These are questions for the host, not facilities guaranteed by the word sodyba. For a mixed trip, decide which part deserves the overnight base rather than moving every day.

Children, tents and a wet-weather evening

For a family cottage, count actual beds and separate bedrooms, not just the advertised maximum capacity. Ask about an open staircase, a stove or direct access to water if any of those appear in the photographs. If you plan to camp, choose a designated site and establish where toilets and water are provided. Plan one evening that works indoors as well: cooking space, somewhere to dry wet clothes and a confirmed arrival arrangement are more useful than a long list of seasonal activities.

Park guest rooms in Marcinkonys

The national park guesthouse at Miškininkų g. 61 has 17 sleeping places, bathroom or shower facilities, linen, towels and Wi-Fi. It gives you a room in a park village rather than a spa hotel in Druskininkai. Reserve through the park on +370 672 44346; match the arrival arrangement to your train or road journey.

A whole villa for a group: Dzūkijos uoga

Vila Dzūkijos uoga, at Viršurodukis 9, is rented to one group at a time, with seven bedrooms for up to 18 guests and an equipped kitchen. It is 18 km from Druskininkai and suits families or friends who want to cook and stay together. Meals, the wood-fired sauna and organised activities cost extra. The final approach uses a forest road, so use the owner's directions rather than treating it as a town-centre hotel.

Tents and campervans outside Merkinė

The park's ornithological centre and campsite are 3 km from Merkinė town centre. It has space for tents and 10 campervans, with showers and toilets. Choose it for an outdoor stay rather than resort facilities. A separate 15-bed house has a shared kitchen; reserve indoor accommodation separately from a pitch. Book with the park on +370 672 44346 and agree which facilities will be open for your dates.

Arriving without a car

LTG Link's Vilnius–Varėna–Marcinkonys line gives you a rail route to a stay in Marcinkonys. Select a service that continues to Marcinkonys: some trains finish at Varėna. The park guesthouse gives you an accommodation address in the same village as the station. For the Viršurodukis villa or the campsite outside Merkinė, arrange the separate journey from the station or bus stop before booking.
