The pier extends from the central promenade into the Baltic. Its exposed position makes a windy-day museum-and-park plan useful.

Palanga travel guide: Amber Museum, park and beach

Palanga combines a busy promenade and pier with a quieter park-and-museum visit. Choose the central beach for convenience, or walk south towards Birutė Park for a day centred on the landscape and Amber Museum.

City guidePopular attractions

Visit durations and walking times are planning estimates. Timetables and admission rules come from the linked operators.

Plan your visit

One day covers the pier, park and museum; leave a second day for beach time. Allow 1-1.5 hours for the museum and about an hour for a park walk.

Airport buses 3 and 31 connect with Palanga. The intercity bus station is east of the central resort, so allow a final walk or taxi rather than expecting to arrive beside the pier.

What to see

Amber Museum

In the Tiškevičiai palace, see resin formation, insects and other inclusions, worked amber and rooms about the family that created the estate. Allow 1-1.5 hours. The west-side entrance has a lift for visitors who cannot use the main staircase.

Official visitor information

Birutė Park

Formal planting around the palace gives way to woodland paths and Birutė Hill. Walk the palace parterre and rose-garden area, then choose the hill or a level-path return. Allow 45-60 minutes outside; the hill adds a climb.

Official visitor information

Basanavičius Street and the pier

The pedestrian street concentrates cafés and seasonal entertainment; the pier gives an open sea view. Allow 30-45 minutes for the pier and approach, longer with a meal. Wind and slippery surfaces can shorten the visit.

Official visitor information

Church and resort centre

The neo-Gothic church anchors the centre away from the beach. A street-level visit is an easy addition; the observation tower is a separate climb with its own admission arrangements. Allow 20-30 minutes at ground level.

Access and shorter alternatives

Amber Museum: use the west-side entrance with a lift if the main staircase is unsuitable. Skip Birutė Hill for a shorter park visit.

Official accessibility information

A workable day

Begin at the church, walk Basanavičius Street to the pier, then head south to Birutė Park. Visit the Amber Museum before exploring the palace gardens and woodland paths. Keep beach time flexible rather than rushing through the museum to fit everything before lunch.

Which beach area

The pier area is convenient for food and the central promenade, but summer footfall is high. The Birutė Park side suits a museum-and-woodland day with fewer central-street detours. Northern approaches towards the edge of the resort suit a longer coast walk; they put you farther from central services. Choose a staffed, designated bathing area and obey flags on the day.

Rain and limited mobility

The Amber Museum is the main indoor alternative. In autumn its published hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-17:00, with last admission one hour earlier; it is closed Mondays and public holidays. Use the west-side lift entrance when needed. Skip Birutė Hill and the church tower for a shorter route, keeping to park paths and the centre.

Airport and bus-station transfers

Palanga Airport is about 7 km from the centre. Bus 3 runs Palanga-Airport-Šventoji; bus 31 runs Klaipėda-Palanga-Airport. The airport lists driver sales, card payment and the Ticket Klaipėda app. Use its linked timetable for your arrival, and arrange a taxi if the next departure does not suit.

From Palanga bus station, the walk to the church and Basanavičius Street is roughly 20-30 minutes; the pier is farther. With luggage or limited walking, take a taxi to the accommodation rather than starting the sightseeing route at the station.
