| Anykščiai | Families, light hiking, literary heritage, river activities, canopy views and slow weekends. | A day trip works; one or two nights are better for forest time, Siaurukas and relaxed meals. | Useful for outlying sights. Buses can reach the town, but a car makes the area much easier. | Plan around bus times if car-free. Some nature sites may require taxi, bike rental or a longer walk. | Read the city guide |
| Šilutė | Birdwatching, waterways, smoked fish, delta villages and quiet nature days from Klaipėda. | One long day from Klaipėda or two nights if you want boats, bikes and the delta at calm hours. | Strongly useful. The best delta stops are spread out and public transport is limited. | Bus or train from Klaipėda; use the timetable for your date and arrange onward delta transfers separately. | Read the city guide |
| Visaginas | Industrial heritage, planned-city architecture, Russian-speaking Lithuania, forests and lake days. | One day or one night; add more only with a booked specialist visit or lake plan. | Not essential for the town, but useful for Ignalina-area sites, lakes and national-park links. | Trains can work for the town. Specialist sites may need advance booking and separate transport. | Read the city guide |

Lithuania is a compact country, so city-hopping is realistic even on a short trip. Vilnius to Kaunas is about 100 km by motorway, while Kaunas to Klaipėda is a longer cross-country journey toward the Baltic coast. Intercity buses and trains are useful on the main routes, especially between Vilnius and Kaunas. A rental car gives more freedom for the Curonian Spit, the Hill of Crosses, Aukštaitija villages and smaller spa or nature stops.
For a first trip without a car, keep the plan simple: base yourself in Vilnius, add Trakai by train or bus, then continue to Kaunas if you have extra time. For a coast-focused trip, use Klaipėda as the practical city base and decide whether to sleep on the Curonian Spit or visit it as a day trip.
