Planning a Lithuania trip

Best time to visit Lithuania: a month-by-month guide

Compare inland and coastal weather, daylight and the kind of trip each month suits. May, June and September work well for mixed city and outdoor plans; July and August suit a beach-led trip.

How to read the numbers

Temperatures are monthly means, not afternoon highs, from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service’s 1991-2020 normals. Klaipėda represents the coast; Vilnius represents the inland capital. Rainfall is the monthly total, including melted snow. A wet summer month can still have many usable outdoor days.

Daylight figures are approximate sunrise-to-sunset times for Vilnius on the 15th of each month in 2026, rounded to ten minutes. They are not recorded sunshine hours. Crowd levels are estimates, not measured visitor numbers.

Choose a season for your route

For a first city-and-country trip, allow three days in Vilnius, then add Kaunas or a lake-region stay. In May or September, put the longest walk near midday and keep one museum available if it rains. July and August are the easiest months to build a trip around Palanga or Nida, but a sea swim still depends on the day’s weather and beach warnings.

In winter, combine short outdoor visits with museums or a spa instead of scheduling a full daylight walking day. For limited mobility, wet leaves, snow and ice matter more than the average temperature: use short taxi transfers and book indoor visits with confirmed step-free access. The October Neringa bus timetable is separate from the summer schedule; do not build an autumn day around a remembered hourly service.
