Planning a Lithuania trip

Vilnius food guide: where to eat and a food walk

Five specific stops for a market browse, traditional dishes, vegan food, coffee and a historical tasting dinner.

Halės Market: produce and a small first meal

Pylimo g. 58. Browse bread, cheese, smoked meat and produce stalls, then choose a small snack from a trader rather than arriving expecting one fixed restaurant menu. This is the lowest-commitment stop: compare the displayed price and buy a small portion. Allow 30-45 minutes; stalls set their own offers and ingredients, so ask individually about vegetarian choices and allergens.

The market website’s main hours panel says Tuesday-Saturday 07:00-18:00 and Sunday 07:00-15:00, while its English FAQ gives a different schedule. Tuesday-Saturday morning is the safer planning window. For a Monday visit, resolve the conflict by calling +370 5 262 5536; individual food outlets can keep different hours.

Etno dvaras: a traditional Lithuanian meal

The menu prices below are from 13 October 2026. Pilies g. 16. Choose this branch for a sit-down introduction to cepelinai: large potato dumplings with a meat filling and crackling-and-sour-cream sauce. The published Pilies menu lists them at €9.55. Curd-stuffed cepelinai are also listed, but specify a meat-free sauce if you want a vegetarian meal. This is casual main-course spending rather than a tasting-menu booking. Allow 60-90 minutes. The venue offers table reservations; use that option for a fixed dinner time or a group.

RoseHip: a fully vegan lunch

Pylimo g. 22D. Bowls, burgers and plant-based desserts make this a useful alternative to meat-and-potato dining. The pink hummus bowl is €11.90; the vegan cold beetroot soup is €7.20 and uses soy milk/yogurt and tofu. Bowls sit in the casual lunch price range; burger sides cost extra. Allow 45-75 minutes. For a group, request a table at +370 696 93657. The menu uses nuts, soy, sesame and wheat: vegan does not mean suitable for every allergy, and a gluten-free bun does not establish a gluten-free kitchen.

Strange Love: a coffee break by the garden

Barboros Radvilaitės g. 6B. This local roaster’s café is useful at the end of the walk, beside the Bernardine Garden entrance. Order a coffee to try the roaster’s beans; add food only if the café’s menu suits your remaining appetite. Allow 20-40 minutes. This is a coffee stop rather than a full dinner; allow €3-5 for coffee as a planning estimate. Treat a walk-in as a flexible plan, and ask staff about milk alternatives and ingredients.

Ertlio namas: book a separate tasting dinner

Šv. Jono g. 7. The restaurant interprets historical Lithuanian cooking through a sequence of small courses rather than a cepelinai main. Published booking choices are seven courses €60 or nine courses €70 per person; standard wine pairings add €30 or €40 respectively. Allow roughly 2-3 hours as a planning estimate. This is the higher-budget evening option. Submit the reservation request and wait for confirmation; the form alone is not a confirmed table. State allergies or dietary needs in the request and ask whether they can be accommodated before committing.

Rain, short visits and mobility

Choose one main meal: Etno dvaras for traditional cooking or RoseHip for a vegan lunch. Eating full meals at both makes this walk unnecessarily long. In rain, shorten it to the market and one indoor meal, using a taxi between them. If you use a wheelchair or need a shorter walk, contact the chosen branch about the entrance, toilet and table access. Old Town paving and street crossings can slow the walk.

A market-to-garden food walk

Start at Halės Market in the morning. Use the numbered stops for food and coffee breaks; reserve dinner at Ertlio namas separately.
